What it is

Orthopedic massage is a focused approach that concentrates on the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue around a specific area of discomfort. Instead of following the same routine every time, your therapist first looks at how you move, including your posture, your range of motion and where you feel tension, and then chooses techniques to match.

Those techniques can include targeted pressure on tight spots, myofascial release, stretching and movement-based work. Orthopedic massage is often used alongside care from a physical therapist, chiropractor or physician.

How it can help

  • Focuses on the specific areas where you feel discomfort
  • Can relieve tension in tight, overworked muscles
  • Supports flexibility and range of motion
  • Supports comfortable, functional movement for work, sport and daily life
  • Can complement recovery from strain, overuse or injury

What to expect

Your first visit begins with a short conversation and a simple assessment of how you move and where you feel restricted. Your therapist will explain what they notice, check in about pressure throughout the session, and may suggest easy stretches to continue at home.

Good to know

Orthopedic massage supports recovery, but it doesn't replace a medical diagnosis. If you have a new or severe injury, numbness or tingling, a possible fracture, or a blood clot, please see your doctor first. Let us know about recent surgeries or any conditions your provider is treating.
